Abandon All Hope! by Zo

Walking into a pub to find twenty pirates drinking and yelling can be a frightening experience, especially in the twenty-first century. They have all come “to do something creative and do something to entertain and be entertained.” These 21st century pirates probably believe that they are the only people in the last century to dress up like pirates on a day other than Halloween to have fun and get loose. Their anachronistic costumes paired with the excitement from drinking with good friends produces a loud, gregarious atmosphere. These people are no longer the professionals they were a couple of hours ago at work. They are pirates.
When I say “pirates”, I don’t mean the sea-faring scalawags you see in movies. I’m talking about people who dress like pirates because they love the pirate culture and the chance to be someone else. Many people in Portland have become part of this pirate fad, dressing up on weekends and heading over to the bar. Who knows, you might even see a few scurvy buccaneers downtown. If you’d like to know more about pirates, come talk to me, Zoheyr Doctor, and I can give you all the facts you need to know about Portland’s pirate community.

Hot Chip - Made in the Dark: This is the latest album from this British group. This group has gone from a very soulful, electric sound to a more up-tempo, techno-like sound. Using mostly synths, this group produced a lot of noise. They mix excellent electric beats with great thoughtful lyrics. I would encourage anyone to at least listen to a couple of songs off this album; they will definitely make you want to dance. Most of the songs off this album are great.
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend: This is the debut album from the New York indie stars. This band has gotten a lot of press for this album. It offers a very unique sound that is almost reggae-like. This album forms a great mixture of light keyboard and guitar. Although they use pretty much the same riff throughout the album, each song is unique and all are very catchy. Like I said before, most of the songs are very good and I urge everyone to give this album a listen and they will love it.
Radiohead - In Rainbows: This is the latest album from the legendary English group. After this much anticipated album dropped online and then on New Years, it has been named one of the best of the year so far. I would totally agree. This album offers either a great album to relax to or just drive to. If you are a beginning Radiohead fan, then I would suggest this as one of the few to start out with. Great songs: “Bodysnatchers”, “Nude”, “All I Need”, “House of Cards”.
Wu Tang Clan - Enter the Wu Tang: This is, hands down, one of the best rap albums ever made. This is the first album from the legendary rap group and is fantastic. This is one of the most groundbreaking rap albums of all time. I thought this would be a more intense rap album but upon listening to it, it was very chill and laid back. It's a great rap album just to put in your car and drive to on those summer nights.
Santana - Abraxas: This is probably one of the best rock albums ever made. It is filled with jazzy and Latin rhythms. This is one of Santana's most popular albums. It contains “Samba Pa Ti” and “Black Magic Women”. This is a great album for those hot summer nights.
