Corey Silver: The Man Behind the Moves By Nathan
 11/17/2008 9:46 AM

The homecoming dance was going along just fine, like normal. People were dancing and having a good time. There was no major rule-breaking going on. Overall, it was just another run-of-the-mill school dance.

Then, somebody dressed in all white appeared on the balcony of the Great Hall and proceeded to wow us with his amazing moves. That somebody is freshman Corey Silver.

Corey has been going to OES since he was in 7th grade, but he says he has been dancing “basically since birth” and that he remembers dancing when he heard music way back when he was just a little kid. Corey says that he likes dancing because he can feel the rhythm of the music in his body and compares his experience to sports, where “whenever people score a goal, they just feel this sense of joy in them”. Another part of dancing he enjoys is the freedom that goes along with it.

Of course, Corey does much more than just dance. Corey runs track in the spring and is part of the sold-out all-school musical, The Music Man. He says that his favorite part of OES is the freedom that you get, much like the freedom he has when he dances. He especially enjoys free period, because he can dance, have fake kung-fu fights, or do almost anything else. He says he even does homework on occasion. All of this is part of what Corey enjoys in his everyday life.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see more of this awesome dancer at Semi...

Body of Lies By Dennis S.
 11/17/2008 9:45 AM

Body of Lies, starring famous actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe (Gladiator), is an exciting movie that features armed battles throughout the movie. It starts when CIA operative, Roger Ferris (DiCaprio) discovers evidence that a major terrorist leader may be located in Jordan. Ferris immediately recruits the smug, ruthless, and immoral CIA veteran, Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe), who aids him in exploiting the dangerous network of the elusive terrorist. After several terrorist attacks, Ferris’s situation seems hopeless, so he asks for the help of the head of the Jordanian Intelligence, Hani Saleem. Hani agrees to help him. In return, he asks Ferris to be completely honest with him. Sensing Hani as a reliable but dangerous friend, Ferris makes no intention of tricking him. However, as Ferris and Hani make slow progress, Hoffman sabotages their fragile relationship by lying to Ferris about information. Ferris tries desperately to save his source but fails. He realizes that he can no longer trust Hoffman because Hoffman is too egocentric and power hungry to work with him. Deception, violence, and secrets are major themes in this movie, making it incredibly suspenseful.

I really liked this movie because of the suspense and thrill I received watching it. The character I liked most was Hani, the head of the Jordanian intelligence, because he was always calm in the midst of all the chaos. He was also incredibly secretive and he stressed friendship and honesty as the most important aspects of his relations. Also, the way he acted and spoke made him seem really smart and friendly, but incredibly dangerous as well. He’s the sort of person you want to have around when you’re in trouble. Basically, the movie portrayed him as the coolest person in the movie. I also liked Leonardo DiCaprio’s acting, which has always been top quality. Like other movies, he acts troubled and confused because he can’t trust anybody. He’s a ground agent so he is always in the middle of the armed battles in the movie. I thought Hoffman was the most annoying character because of his smug etiquette and his incessant want to know everything. Overall, the movie was great and people should see it if they have the time. However, if terrorist attacks are too depressing for you, you should avoid this movie.
